Hosting and Administrative Maintenance Services :
The purpose of this document is to offer a general description of what services will be performed for each area described.
Web Site Assessment and Consultation:
A thorough assessment of your existing web site will be performed and a detailed written report will be completed and provided to you. This report will contain the following:
- Administrative, technical and maintenance assessments regarding your existing web site.
- Potential issues surrounding the outlay, content and design.
- Recommendations and/or suggestions for improvement.
At your request, a date and time convenient for both parties will be arranged in order to consult with you regarding the assessments and recommendations concerning your web site.
Web Site Upgrades:
Determining the exact purpose for your web site is the most important step in the process of establishing your presence on the World Wide Web. Everything else flows from the purpose--from the structure of the information right down to choice of colors and fonts. The purpose (or purposes) should be concise and should include both your immediate goals and your long-range plans as well. After an initial assessment and consultation, upgrades to your existing web site will be performed in accordance to the terms agreed upon by both parties.
Web Site Hosting:
After receiving the initial payment and required information, signing up and contracting with the web hosting company will be completed, providing all necessary information for placing your website on the web hosting company’s web servers. Upon completion of this process, there will be administrative access to the web server in order to upload data for publication to the World Wide Internet.
Web Site Development:
Most of the content for your web site will usually be provided by you. Uncle Jim's Web Designs can consult and recommend special adaptations to modify your existing content to work well on the web. For example, web writing must be brief and to the point. The style should be more conversational and personal than other common types of business writing.
If your own writers are not experienced at web writing, we can provide writing or editing services to help optimize the content you provide. There are many "tricks of the trade" to successful web writing, and our staff writer is experienced and versatile.
Graphics choices also need to be based on different criteria than other media. Photos, for instance, must be much simpler for publication online. The low screen resolution (dots per inch) will simply not show detailed images effectively. Contrast is different when you are looking at the light source on a monitor versus viewing reflected light from paper. We can coach you on how to make the best choices. We also have resources for creating or using existing graphics when you need generic images.
We pay strict attention to copyright laws, and require written permission to use content developed by third parties. When you hire us to develop your web site, you have access to our technical expertise and years of experience to help you develop content to make the quality of your online presentation stand out and be successful. After initial consultation, your web site content and pages will be developed according to the specifications agreed upon by both parties.
Web Site Maintenance:
Once your site is built and launched, there will usually be some ongoing maintenance required. At a minimum, links to other web sites should be tested and search engine listings checked and updated at regular intervals. Some of our clients prefer to have us build the site and turn over maintenance to trained in-house staff, but many hire us to do the work.
Our custom web software can sometimes help reduce maintenance costs by allowing you to add new content to your site via web-based forms. Simple editing, such as price changes, can be similarly automated. It costs more up front but could save you money in the long run.
For maximum flexibility or infrequent updates, you may choose to have us do the work. We aim for quick turnaround time on simple changes. Major changes receive priority scheduling for existing clients.
As we develop your web site, we'll keep future maintenance in mind and suggest ways to minimize maintenance costs whenever possible. We also factor site maintenance into our Work Estimates. All existing and new data, page content and updates will be performed as deemed necessary by both parties in accordance with the terms of agreement.
